CVE-2025-48536 is a local elevation-of-privilege vulnerability in the Android System component affecting Android 13 through Android 16. The flaw is in the grantAllowlistedPackagePermissions function of SettingsSliceProvider.java, where a confused deputy condition can allow a third-party application to cause secure settings to be modified. The vulnerable component performs a privileged action on behalf of a less-privileged caller without adequately constraining or validating the caller’s authority for the requested operation. Successful exploitation does not require user interaction and does not require additional execution privileges beyond the ability to run a local application on the device.
