CVE-2025-48800 is a Windows BitLocker security feature bypass vulnerability in the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). The flaw stems from a protection mechanism failure in WinRE’s handling of ReAgent.xml scheduled operations, specifically the Offline Scanning path. WinRE does not strictly validate the arguments used by the Offline Scanning application, allowing abuse of tttracer.exe to trace Command Prompt without triggering the normal BitLocker re-lock behavior. In the vulnerable state, WinRE has already auto-unlocked the BitLocker-protected operating system volume after validating the recovery environment, but the re-lock safeguard intended to protect access when risky tools are launched can be bypassed. An attacker with physical access can therefore obtain command execution in the recovery environment while the protected volume remains accessible, defeating BitLocker device encryption protections on the system storage device.
