CVE-2025-49532 is a critical integer underflow vulnerability in Adobe Illustrator. Affected versions include Illustrator 28.7.6, 29.5.1, and earlier releases in the affected branches; vendor guidance indicates Illustrator 2025 versions earlier than 29.6 and Illustrator 2024 versions earlier than 28.7.8 are vulnerable. The flaw is classified as an Integer Underflow (Wrap or Wraparound) and can be triggered when Illustrator processes a maliciously crafted file. Successful exploitation may corrupt memory and result in arbitrary code execution in the security context of the current user.

Successful exploitation can lead to arbitrary code execution in the context of the logged-in user who opens the malicious file. Depending on that user's privileges, an attacker may be able to install programs, access or modify data available to the user, and further compromise the affected workstation. The broader Illustrator advisory also notes potential denial-of-service and memory disclosure impacts across the vulnerability set, but for CVE-2025-49532 the specifically stated impact is code execution.

Until patches can be applied, reduce exposure by preventing users from opening untrusted or unsolicited Illustrator files, especially files received through email or other external channels. Limit local user privileges to reduce post-exploitation impact, and use application control, attachment filtering, and sandboxing where available to constrain malicious file execution paths.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade Adobe Illustrator to a fixed release. Vendor guidance identifies Illustrator 2025 version 29.6 or later and Illustrator 2024 version 28.7.8 or later as remediated versions. Apply the update across affected Windows and macOS systems through normal enterprise software deployment or the Creative Cloud update mechanism.
