CVE-2025-54132 affects Cursor, an AI-assisted code editor. In versions prior to 1.3, Mermaid diagrams rendered in the chat box permit embedded images. When an attacker first succeeds in prompt injection through malicious untrusted content such as web content, uploaded images, or source code, the injected content can cause Mermaid to render an attacker-controlled image URL. Cursor then fetches that external image, which can be used as an exfiltration channel to transmit sensitive information to a third-party server under attacker control. The issue can also be triggered by a malicious or backdoored model output. The vulnerability is therefore an indirect data exfiltration flaw arising from unsafe rendering of Mermaid content in a privileged application context.
