CVE-2025-55177 is an incomplete authorization flaw in the handling of linked-device synchronization messages in WhatsApp for iOS prior to 2.25.21.73, WhatsApp Business for iOS prior to 2.25.21.78, and WhatsApp for Mac prior to 2.25.21.78. According to WhatsApp’s description, the issue could allow an unrelated user to trigger processing of content from an arbitrary URL on a target device. The vulnerable logic is in the authorization of synchronization messages associated with WhatsApp’s linked-device functionality, where insufficient validation of message origin/relationship permits unauthorized message-driven content processing. WhatsApp assessed that this vulnerability may have been exploited in the wild as part of a sophisticated attack chain together with Apple platform vulnerability CVE-2025-43300.
