CVE-2025-5918 is an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the libarchive library affecting bsdtar when processing file streams provided through a pipe. Under crafted input conditions, the parser can read past the end of the file or stream buffer while handling archive data. This memory-safety flaw may result in unpredictable behavior during file processing and has been described by downstream vendors as potentially leading to memory corruption while processing a file.
