CVE-2025-59374 is a retrospective CVE assignment for the historic ShadowHammer supply-chain compromise affecting certain versions of the ASUS Live Update client. ASUS distributed modified Live Update builds containing unauthorized embedded malicious code after the update supply chain was compromised. The trojanized client was signed and delivered as a legitimate update, but only systems that both installed the compromised versions and matched specific attacker-defined targeting conditions were intended to trigger the malicious behavior. Public reporting tied the targeting logic to a hard-coded list of MAC addresses used to identify a small set of intended victims. ASUS remediated the issue in 2019, with guidance indicating version 3.6.8 or later addressed the problem. The affected Live Update client is now unsupported/end-of-support, and no currently supported ASUS products are reported as affected.
