CVE-2025-59689 is a command injection vulnerability in Libraesva Email Security Gateway (ESG) affecting versions 4.5 through 5.5.x before the vendor fixes. The flaw is triggered through a specially crafted compressed email attachment. Available reporting indicates the root cause is improper sanitization during processing intended to remove active code from files contained in certain compressed archive formats, allowing an attacker to bypass sanitization logic and inject shell commands. Successful exploitation results in arbitrary command execution on the ESG appliance in the context of a non-privileged user. The vulnerability has been reported as actively exploited in the wild, including in targeted operations attributed to a nation-state actor.
