Sandboxie (Windows sandbox/isolation software) versions 1.16.6 and below contain a privilege-escalation vulnerability in the SYSTEM-level service SbieSvc.exe. The service exposes the SbieIniServer::RC4Crypt handler to sandboxed processes. In this handler, a fixed header size is added to a caller-controlled value_len without integer overflow checking. Supplying a very large value_len (e.g., 0xFFFFFFF0) causes the computed allocation size to wrap, resulting in an undersized heap allocation. When attacker-controlled data is subsequently copied into this buffer, a heap overflow occurs, enabling arbitrary code execution in the context of the SYSTEM service and thereby escaping the sandbox and fully compromising the host. The issue is fixed in Sandboxie 1.16.7.
