CVE-2025-68160 is a heap-based out-of-bounds write in OpenSSL's line-buffering BIO filter, BIO_f_linebuffer. The flaw is triggered when large data containing no newline characters is written through a BIO chain using this filter and the next BIO in the chain performs short writes. Under those conditions, the line-buffering logic can write past the bounds of a heap buffer, causing memory corruption. The issue affects OpenSSL 3.6, 3.5, 3.4, 3.3, 3.0, 1.1.1, and 1.0.2. The vulnerable functionality is outside the OpenSSL FIPS module boundary, so the FIPS modules for affected 3.x branches are not impacted. The filter is not used by default in standard TLS/SSL data paths, which substantially limits typical exposure.
