CVE-2025-71089 is a use-after-free and write-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel IOMMU Shared Virtual Addressing (SVA) implementation on x86. Because x86 maps kernel virtual address space into every process page table, an IOMMU operating in an SVA context can walk and cache intermediate kernel page-table entries. The kernel did not notify the IOMMU when kernel page-table pages were freed or subsequently reused; only user virtual-address mapping changes were notified. Consequently, stale IOTLB or paging-cache entries can cause the IOMMU to interpret reallocated memory as page-table data or continue writing Accessed and Dirty bits into freed memory. The upstream corrective change disables SVA on x86 pending an invalidation design that safely flushes IOMMU paging caches before kernel page-table pages are reused.
