CVE-2025-71116 is an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the Linux kernel's libceph component, specifically in decode_pool(). When parsing a Ceph OSD map, the function relied on the encoded ceph_pg_pool envelope length for bounds validation. If an osdmap is maliciously corrupted so that the encoded envelope length is smaller than required for the specified encoding version, decode_pool() can read past the end of the expected buffer while decoding or skipping fields. The upstream fix hardens the parser by adding explicit bounds checks for each field processed by decode_pool().
