CVE-2025-71216 is a local privilege escalation vulnerability in the Trend Micro Apex One Security Agent for macOS. The flaw is described as a time-of-check time-of-use (TOCTOU) issue in the agent cache mechanism. Supporting context indicates the vulnerable condition stems from improper cache key checking during signature verification, creating a race condition that can be abused after validation but before use. An attacker who already has the ability to execute low-privileged code on the target macOS system can exploit this weakness to elevate privileges. The issue was tracked as ZDI-26-142 / ZDI-CAN-26605 and was noted by Trend Micro as informational because it had already been addressed through ActiveUpdate/SaaS updates in mid to late 2025.
