CVE-2025-71217 is a local privilege escalation vulnerability in the Trend Micro Apex One Security Agent for macOS, specifically within the TmSelfProtect self-protection component. The flaw is caused by insufficient validation of the origin of commands handled by the self-protection mechanism. Because the component does not properly verify whether commands originate from a trusted source, a local attacker who can already execute code with low privileges on the target system may be able to abuse the vulnerable logic to perform unauthorized actions with elevated privileges. Public reporting indicates successful exploitation can result in arbitrary code execution in the context of root.
