CVE-2026-10879 is a heap overflow vulnerability in Perl DBI affecting versions before 1.648. The flaw is in the SQL statement preparsing logic implemented by the preparse method. During placeholder expansion, SQL placeholder characters are rewritten into numbered binders of the form :pN. The vulnerable code allocates only three characters per binder in the destination buffer, which is sufficient only for single-digit binder numbers. When a statement contains more than 9 binders, expanded placeholders require additional characters, causing the buffer sizing calculation to become too small and leading to a heap-based out-of-bounds write during preparse. Statements with binder numbers 10 through 99 require four characters, and larger binder numbers require even more space. This memory-safety flaw can corrupt heap memory while processing attacker-controlled or application-supplied SQL statements.
