CVE-2026-12449 is a high-severity use-after-free vulnerability in the Chromoting component of Google Chrome on Windows. The flaw affects Chrome versions prior to 149.0.7827.155 and arises from incorrect memory lifetime handling, where previously freed memory can be accessed again. In the affected Windows-specific context, exploitation is described as being achievable by a local attacker through a malicious file, leading to OS-level privilege escalation. Chromium-derived browsers that incorporated the vulnerable codebase, including Chromium and Chromium-based Microsoft Edge builds prior to their corresponding fixed releases, were also affected through dependency on Chromium.
