CVE-2026-12949 is a critical unauthenticated account takeover vulnerability in the Wishlist Member plugin for WordPress affecting versions up to and including 3.34.1. The flaw is in the plugin's wpm_register() function, which validates the registration cookie only against the GET reg parameter while also accepting attacker-controlled POST mergewith and POST wpm_id values without verifying that the referenced merge target is a temporary or incomplete registrant bound to the current registration transaction. By supplying an arbitrary existing WordPress user ID in mergewith, an attacker can cause the registration workflow to update that account instead of a legitimate in-progress registration. Exploitation results in attacker-controlled modification of the target account's username, password, email address, first name, and last name through wp_update_user(), with the username also written through a direct database update path. WordPress password-change and email-change notification messages are explicitly suppressed during the process. If wpm_id is set to a non-existent membership level, no role value is included in the update payload, causing WordPress to preserve the victim account's existing role. When the targeted account is an administrator, this produces immediate administrative takeover of the WordPress site.
