CVE-2026-14863 is an OS command injection vulnerability in FileRun affecting versions up to and including 2026.2.0. The flaw resides in the thumbnail generation workflow, where extractor components for media and document previews construct shell command strings using attacker-controlled filenames and pass them to PHP exec() without proper shell escaping such as escapeshellarg(). Because the filename is inserted inside shell double quotes, shell command substitution syntax remains active, allowing crafted filenames containing constructs such as $() to be interpreted by the shell. The vulnerable behavior is reachable when thumbnail generation invokes external tools including ffmpeg, ImageMagick, vips, or stl-thumb to process an uploaded file. A successful attacker can trigger remote code execution by uploading a file whose filename contains shell command substitution payloads that survive the application’s filename sanitization logic.

A remote code execution vulnerability in FileRun caused by OS command injection in thumbnail extractor command construction. User-controlled filenames are embedded in shell commands passed to PHP exec(), allowing command substitution and RCE as the web server user.
An OS command injection vulnerability in FileRun thumbnail extractors that can lead to remote code execution by embedding shell metacharacters in uploaded filenames; affects authenticated uploads by default and can also be exploited pre-auth via public file-request weblinks when a valid token is known.
An authenticated remote code execution vulnerability in FileRun caused by OS command injection in thumbnail generation, where malicious filenames are passed to exec() without proper escapeshellarg() sanitization.
