CVE-2026-16242 is a critical authentication flaw in the Konnectivity proxy-server configuration used for hosted control planes in Hypershift-related environments. The agent-facing listener was started without a cluster CA certificate configuration and without token-based agent authentication, resulting in failure to validate client certificates for connecting agents. Because the listener accepted agent connections without proper authentication, a remote attacker with network reachability to the Konnectivity cluster endpoint could register as an unauthenticated agent and join the routing pool. Once admitted, the attacker could interfere with traffic flowing between the control plane and nodes, including proxying, inspecting, modifying, or dropping that traffic.
