CVE-2026-18798 is a double-free vulnerability in the OpenSSL QUIC server default packet handler. While validating a QUIC INITIAL packet, port_default_packet_handler() creates a QRX receive-record object and passes it to port_bind_channel() during connection creation. If port_bind_channel() fails, it frees the QRX object; the caller subsequently follows its error path and frees the same object again. A non-RFC 9000-compliant INITIAL packet with a destination connection ID shorter than eight bytes can cause port_bind_channel() to fail after original-DCID enrollment validation, triggering the double free. OpenSSL 4.0, 3.6, and 3.5 are affected; OpenSSL 3.4, 3.0, 1.1.1, and 1.0.2 are not affected. The OpenSSL FIPS module is not affected because QUIC is outside its module boundary.
