Information Disclosure in Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Manager vshell

IdentifiersCVE-2026-20133CWE-552

CVE-2026-20133 is an information disclosure vulnerability in Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Software / Catalyst SD-WAN Manager. According to the provided content, the issue is caused by insufficient file system restrictions. An attacker who has access to the vshell on an affected system can exploit the weakness to read sensitive information from the underlying operating system. The content is internally inconsistent on whether exploitation is unauthenticated or requires privileges; the more specific description states exploitation requires access to the vshell by an authenticated attacker with netadmin privileges. Cisco and multiple reports also indicate this vulnerability has been observed exploited in the wild in 2026, including as part of broader SD-WAN exploitation chains.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows disclosure of sensitive information resident on the underlying operating system of the affected SD-WAN Manager system. This can expose configuration data, credentials, keys, or other operationally sensitive files depending on file accessibility from vshell, and may materially assist follow-on compromise, privilege escalation, or lateral movement when used in a chained attack.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

If immediate patching is not possible, minimize exposure to the management plane and tightly restrict access to SD-WAN Manager administrative interfaces and vshell. Limit access to trusted management networks only, reduce or eliminate direct internet exposure, enforce least privilege for administrative roles such as netadmin, and monitor for anomalous shell access and suspicious file access on affected systems. Preserve logs and forensic artifacts before making major changes if compromise is suspected.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Manager / SD-WAN Software to a Cisco-fixed release as specified in Cisco’s February 2026 security updates and the applicable Cisco upgrade matrix. Because the vulnerability has been reported as actively exploited, remediation should be prioritized and accompanied by compromise assessment and review of Cisco/Talos indicators of compromise where available.
