CVE-2026-22795 is a type-confusion vulnerability in OpenSSL PKCS#12 parsing. The parser accesses an ASN1_TYPE union member without validating that the object has the expected type, causing an invalid or NULL pointer dereference during processing of malformed PKCS#12 data. OpenSSL 3.6, 3.5, 3.4, 3.3, 3.0, and 1.1.1 are affected; OpenSSL 1.0.2 is not affected. OpenSSL FIPS modules are not affected because the vulnerable PKCS#12 implementation is outside the FIPS module boundary.

An OpenSSL PKCS#12 parsing vulnerability allows a malformed file to trigger an invalid or NULL pointer dereference and crash the processing application, causing denial of service. Pointer manipulation is limited to addresses 0x00–0xFF, normally unmapped on modern operating systems. Exploitation requires a user or application to process a malicious PKCS#12 file. The advisory assesses the issue as Low severity, while the plugin rates it Medium with a CVSS v3 base score of 5.5. OpenSSL 1.0.2 and the identified FIPS modules are not affected.
