CVE-2026-22990 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in the Linux kernel's libceph component. The flaw is in osdmap_apply_incremental(), where an overzealous BUG_ON assertion is reached if a processed incremental OSD map contains an epoch value different from what the code expects. A maliciously corrupted OSD map can therefore trigger a kernel BUG instead of being handled as invalid input. The fix changes this behavior so that the malformed incremental OSD map is rejected as invalid rather than causing the kernel to BUG.
