CVE-2026-23216 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel SCSI target iSCSI subsystem, specifically in iscsit_dec_conn_usage_count(). The flaw arises because the function invokes complete() while still holding conn->conn_usage_lock. Once complete() wakes a waiting thread such as iscsit_close_connection(), that waiter can proceed to free the associated iscsit_conn structure before the original thread reaches spin_unlock_bh(). The original thread then attempts to operate on state embedded in the already-freed connection object, producing a slab use-after-free condition as observed by KASAN. The upstream fix changes the ordering so the spinlock is released before complete() is called.
