CVE-2026-25592 is an arbitrary file write vulnerability in Microsoft Semantic Kernel .NET SDK, specifically in the SessionsPythonPlugin component. The issue affects versions prior to the fixed release and stems from unsafe handling of attacker- or model-controlled local file path arguments in file transfer functions, particularly DownloadFileAsync; supporting content also references UploadFileAsync as affected by insufficient path validation. In the vulnerable implementation, DownloadFileAsync exposed a localFilePath parameter that ultimately controlled where File.WriteAllBytes() wrote data on the host, without adequate path validation, sanitization, or directory restriction. Additional reporting states DownloadFileAsync was inadvertently exposed to the model as a callable tool via the [KernelFunction] attribute, allowing prompt-influenced tool invocation to reach the vulnerable path. Researchers described an exploit chain in which code executed in the sandbox creates a malicious payload and then uses DownloadFileAsync to write that payload to an arbitrary host path such as the Windows Startup folder, enabling execution on next logon. The flaw demonstrates that model-controlled tool parameters must be treated as untrusted input and that localhost/sandbox assumptions do not provide a security boundary.
