Heap Buffer Overflow in MediaArea MediaInfoLib ID3v2 Parsing
CVE-2026-25713 is a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in MediaArea MediaInfoLib affecting version 26.01. The flaw is reported in the library's ID3v2 parsing functionality. According to Cisco Talos (TALOS-2026-2368), the vulnerability can be triggered when MediaInfoLib processes a maliciously crafted media file, causing an out-of-bounds write or related heap memory corruption condition during parsing. Talos states that successful exploitation can lead to arbitrary code execution.

Until patching is completed, reduce exposure by avoiding processing untrusted or externally supplied media files with vulnerable MediaInfoLib deployments, especially in automated or server-side workflows. Isolate media parsing in sandboxed or low-privilege environments where possible. Cisco also noted that Snort coverage is available to help detect exploitation attempts.

Upgrade MediaArea MediaInfoLib from affected version 26.01 to a vendor-patched release that addresses CVE-2026-25713. Cisco Talos states the vulnerability has been patched by the vendor. If MediaInfoLib is statically bundled or embedded in downstream products, rebuild and redeploy those products with the fixed library version.
