CVE-2026-28686 is a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in ImageMagick affecting releases prior to 7.1.2-16 and 6.9.13-41. The flaw exists in the PCL encode functionality due to allocation of an output buffer that is too small for subsequent operations. When crafted input is processed through the vulnerable PCL encoding path, the encoder can write past the end of the heap buffer, causing memory corruption. Depending on runtime conditions and exploitability of the corrupted state, the issue may result in application crashes or potentially arbitrary code execution.
