CVE-2026-29009 is a buffer overflow vulnerability in U-Boot through 2026.04-rc3. The flaw is in nfs_readlink_reply() in net/nfs-common.c and is reachable when CONFIG_CMD_NFS is enabled. The vulnerable logic appends multiple relative symlink targets returned in NFS READLINK responses into the 2048-byte nfs_path_buff buffer without proper cumulative length validation. A malicious or compromised NFS server can exploit this by returning two or more relative symlink targets of roughly 1100 bytes each, causing nfs_path_buff to overflow. The overflow can corrupt adjacent BSS-resident state, including variables such as nfs_server_ip, nfs_server_mount_port, nfs_server_port, nfs_our_port, nfs_state, and rpc_id, resulting in memory corruption and possible manipulation of the U-Boot NFS client state machine.
