CVE-2026-29518 is a time-of-check to time-of-use race condition in rsync daemon mode affecting versions before 3.4.3. The flaw exists in daemon file handling when rsync is configured with the non-default setting use chroot = no, where path validation and file opening occur as separate operations. An attacker with write access to a module directory can replace a parent path component with a symbolic link after validation but before the file is opened, causing file operations to escape the intended module boundary. The issue affects daemon-side handling of file paths and can be used to redirect reads and writes outside the exported module. Rsync 3.4.3 fixes the issue by applying secure relative path opening protections in the vulnerable daemon code path.
