CVE-2026-33115 is a Critical use-after-free vulnerability in Microsoft Office Word. The flaw arises from improper handling of object lifetime in Word, allowing memory to be reused after it has been freed. By causing Word to access the stale object state, an attacker can corrupt memory and achieve code execution. Microsoft and multiple advisories describe the issue as affecting Word and note that the Preview Pane can serve as an attack vector, meaning exploitation may occur when a crafted document is previewed rather than fully opened. Although some summaries describe the outcome as local code execution, the vulnerability is also characterized as a Word remote code execution issue because delivery can be initiated remotely through a malicious document while code runs on the victim system in the context of the local user.
