CVE-2026-34338 is an elevation-of-privilege vulnerability in the Windows Telephony Service caused by a use-after-free condition. The flaw arises from improper object lifetime handling in the Telephony Service, where memory that has already been freed can still be referenced later. An attacker with local access and low privileges may be able to reclaim the freed memory with controlled data, leading to corruption of in-process structures or redirection of execution flow within the Telephony Service process. Because the service runs with elevated privileges, successful exploitation can result in escalation from a low-privileged local context to SYSTEM. Microsoft rated the issue Important and assigned it a CVSS v3.1 base score of 7.8.
