CVE-2026-34986 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in Go JOSE, a Go implementation of JOSE standards including JWE, JWS, and JWT. In versions prior to 4.1.4 and 3.0.5, decryption of a JSON Web Encryption object can panic when the JWE alg header specifies a key wrapping algorithm ending in KW, except for the GCM key wrap variants, and the encrypted_key field is empty. The vulnerable path is reachable through ParseEncrypted(), ParseEncryptedJSON(), or ParseEncryptedCompact() followed by Decrypt(), and also by direct invocation of cipher.KeyUnwrap() with ciphertext shorter than 16 bytes. The panic occurs in key_wrap.go when cipher.KeyUnwrap() attempts to allocate a slice using a zero or negative length derived from the encrypted key length.
