CVE-2026-35535 is a local privilege-escalation vulnerability in Sudo through version 1.9.17p2. Before invoking its mailer, Sudo attempts to drop privileges with setuid, setgid, and setgroups. Failures of these calls were not handled as fatal errors, allowing mailer execution to proceed despite an unsuccessful privilege drop. A local attacker able to trigger this condition may cause the mailer to execute with unintended elevated privileges. The issue is classified as CWE-272, Least Privilege Violation.
