CVE-2026-35554 is a race condition in Apache Kafka's Java producer client buffer-pool management. If a produce batch reaches delivery.timeout.ms while its associated network request remains in flight, the client can prematurely deallocate the batch's ByteBuffer and return it to the shared buffer pool. A later produce batch, including one for a different topic, can reuse and overwrite that buffer before the original request completes. The in-flight request may consequently transmit corrupted or substituted message data to an unintended topic without reporting an error to the producer. Affected kafka-clients versions are 2.8.0 through 3.9.1, 4.0.0 through 4.0.1, and 4.1.0 through 4.1.1.
