CVE-2026-3592 is a resource-amplification vulnerability in BIND 9 recursive resolver processing of referrals containing self-pointed glue records. When multiple delegated nameserver names resolve to duplicate addresses, BIND's resolver SLIST treats each occurrence as independent. Marking one address instance as tried does not mark identical addresses in other lists as used. An attacker-controlled zone can therefore return referrals that repeatedly direct the resolver back to the same authoritative infrastructure without advancing resolution. The resolver issues disproportionate repeated upstream queries and processes repeated referral responses until its query limit is reached. Affected versions are BIND 9.11.0 through 9.16.50, 9.18.0 through 9.18.48, 9.20.0 through 9.20.22, 9.21.0 through 9.21.21, and the corresponding affected Supported Preview Edition releases.
