CVE-2026-39979 is an out-of-bounds read in jq's libjq jv_parse_sized() API. Although the API accepts a buffer and explicit length, its malformed-JSON error-handling path formats the supplied buffer as a NUL-terminated string rather than respecting that length. A malformed JSON input held in a non-NUL-terminated buffer can therefore cause the parser to read beyond the buffer boundary while constructing an error message.
