CVE-2026-40365 is a critical remote code execution vulnerability in on-premises Microsoft SharePoint Server caused by insufficient granularity of access control. The flaw allows an authenticated attacker to send crafted requests to a vulnerable SharePoint server and execute arbitrary code over the network. Available reporting consistently describes exploitation as post-authentication and indicates that attackers with at least Site Owner privileges can trigger code execution on the underlying SharePoint server. The issue was addressed by Microsoft in the May 2026 security updates for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition, SharePoint Server 2019, and SharePoint Enterprise Server 2016.
