CVE-2026-40884 is an authentication bypass vulnerability in goshs, a Go-based SimpleHTTPServer, affecting versions prior to 2.0.0-beta.6. When goshs is started with SFTP enabled and the documented basic-auth syntax that uses an empty username and non-empty password, the application accepts the configuration but fails to install an SFTP password authentication handler. This leaves the SFTP service reachable without enforcing password-based authentication. The flaw is triggered specifically by the combination of SFTP mode and a basic-auth credential string in which the username field is empty. Successful exploitation allows remote access to the exposed SFTP file service without valid credentials. The issue was fixed in version 2.0.0-beta.6.
