CVE-2026-40968 is an authentication/authorization context handling flaw in Spring gRPC affecting versions 1.0.0 through 1.0.2. When an authenticated user invokes a gRPC method and access is denied, the user's authenticated identity is not properly cleared from the gRPC worker thread. Because the stale security context remains bound to that thread, a subsequent unauthenticated request processed on the same worker thread can inherit the prior user's authenticated identity. This creates a thread-local security context leak across requests and can result in authorization decisions being made using the wrong principal.
