CVE-2026-40983 is a high-severity denial-of-service vulnerability in Micrometer’s gRPC server instrumentation. Specially crafted gRPC requests can trigger uncontrolled resource consumption and cause a DoS condition in applications using affected Micrometer releases. The issue affects Micrometer 1.16.0 through 1.16.5 and 1.15.0 through 1.15.11. Exploitability depends on the application using vulnerable io.micrometer:micrometer-core versions together with an ObservationRegistry that records observations, a metric-producing observation handler such as DefaultMeterObservationHandler or an equivalent custom ObservationHandler, and ObservationGrpcServerInterceptor to instrument the gRPC server. Versions earlier than 1.15.0 are not affected.
