CVE-2026-40992 is an improper certificate hostname verification vulnerability in Spring Boot Mail auto-configuration. Affected configurations do not enable JavaMail SSL/TLS server-identity checking by default, so an SMTP peer certificate is not verified against the intended SMTP hostname. The issue affects Spring Boot 4.0.0 through 4.0.6, 3.5.0 through 3.5.14, and 3.4.0 through 3.4.16; unsupported versions are also affected. Applications that explicitly enable JavaMail SMTP SSL server-identity checking are not affected.
