CVE-2026-40994 is an insecure-default vulnerability in Spring Web Services Wss4jSecurityInterceptor. The interceptor initializes its WS-I Basic Security Profile (BSP) compliance setting such that inbound WSS4J RequestData validation does not enforce BSP rules, overriding the secure default of the underlying WSS4J library. Consequently, WS-Security-protected SOAP services can accept inbound messages that violate BSP requirements, including rules governing signatures and related security constructs. Affected versions are Spring Web Services 3.1.0 through 3.1.8, 4.0.0 through 4.0.18, 4.1.0 through 4.1.3, and 5.0.0 through 5.0.1.

A high-severity Spring Web Services WS-Security validation flaw in Wss4jSecurityInterceptor that disables inbound WSS4J Basic Security Profile enforcement, allowing WS-Security messages that violate BSP rules to be accepted.
A validation failure in Spring Web Services where inbound verification disables required security protocol enforcement by default.
A vulnerability in Spring Web Services where Wss4jSecurityInterceptor disables WSS4J BSP enforcement during inbound validation, allowing WS-Security messages that violate BSP rules to be accepted and weakening protocol-level security checks.
An insecure default initialization flaw in Spring Web Services' Wss4jSecurityInterceptor that disables WS-I Basic Security Profile enforcement for inbound WS-Security messages, enabling message integrity bypass on SOAP services.
