CVE-2026-41681 affects rust-openssl, the Rust bindings for OpenSSL, in versions from 0.10.39 before 0.10.78. The flaw is in MdCtxRef::digest_final(), which calls EVP_DigestFinal() without verifying that the caller-supplied output buffer is large enough for the digest result. EVP_DigestFinal() always writes EVP_MD_CTX_size(ctx) bytes to the output buffer; if the provided buffer is smaller than that size, the function writes past the end of the buffer. The resulting out-of-bounds write is typically a stack corruption condition and is reachable from safe Rust code.
