CVE-2026-42223 is an information disclosure vulnerability in Nginx UI prior to version 2.3.8. The flaw is in the GetSettings API handler in api/settings/settings.go (reported at lines 24-65), which serializes settings structs to JSON and returns them to authenticated users. Although many sensitive configuration fields are marked with the struct tag protected:"true", that protection is only enforced on write operations through ProtectedFill in SaveSettings and is not enforced when settings are read back and serialized. As a result, the API discloses more than 40 protected fields to any authenticated user. Exposed values include JwtSecret, NodeSecret, OIDC ClientSecret, and IP whitelist configuration. The issue stems from improper handling of sensitive fields during JSON serialization of configuration objects.
