CVE-2026-42566 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in Meshtastic prior to version 2.7.23.b246bcd affecting BLE management through the iOS application. A node can advertise a User.long_name containing malformed character encoding. At least one firmware code path could insert a null terminator in the middle of a multibyte sequence, producing an invalidly encoded long name in the node database. That malformed entry then propagates through the mesh and is consumed by downstream clients. Because the iOS app strictly validates encoding, it can fail to parse a node database containing the poisoned entry. This causes BLE synchronization to enter a repeated failure and retry condition, preventing normal management of the affected radio through the iOS app. The issue is notable because the malformed value does not require deliberate attacker-crafted input and can arise naturally from buffer truncation behavior.
