CVE-2026-42589 is an OS command injection vulnerability in Gotenberg versions before 8.31.0. The PDF metadata-writing API passes user-controlled JSON metadata keys to ExifTool through the go-exiftool library without validating key characters. An embedded newline in a key creates a separate ExifTool argument line, permitting injection of ExifTool flags such as -if. Because -if evaluates Perl expressions, an unauthenticated attacker can execute operating-system commands using a single HTTP request.
