CVE-2026-42824, dubbed SearchLeak, is a critical vulnerability chain in Microsoft 365 Copilot Enterprise Search that Microsoft classified under command injection due to improper neutralization of special elements used in a command. The issue allowed attacker-controlled input supplied through the Copilot Search query parameter to be interpreted as executable prompt content rather than only as a search string. In demonstrated exploitation, this parameter-to-prompt injection was chained with a race condition in streamed HTML rendering, where attacker-controlled markup could be processed before sanitization completed, and with a Bing image-search server-side request mechanism that could be abused as an exfiltration channel. The chain enabled Copilot to search enterprise data available through the victim’s Microsoft Graph-backed access, extract targeted content from sources such as email, calendar, SharePoint, and OneDrive, embed that content into an outbound request, and disclose it to an attacker over the network after a victim opened a crafted link.
