CVE-2026-44690 is a cache-poisoning vulnerability in NLnet Labs Unbound versions 1.7.0 through 1.25.1. Insufficient validation of the DNSSEC RRSIG Labels field, combined with premature cache insertion during RFC 8198 aggressive NSEC processing, permits cross-zone wildcard cache poisoning. A malicious delegated child zone can supply crafted insecure DNS data that causes Unbound to accept fraudulent wildcard DS-related data and synthesize nonexistent delegations covered by the NSEC chain of an NSEC-signed parent.
