CVE-2026-44799 is a critical remote code execution vulnerability in the Windows Remote Desktop Client caused by a heap-based buffer overflow. The flaw is triggered when a victim uses a vulnerable Remote Desktop Client to connect to an attacker-controlled Remote Desktop Server. During processing of malicious server-supplied data, the client can corrupt heap memory, creating a condition that allows arbitrary code execution in the context of the client system. Microsoft assigned the vulnerability a CVSS v3.1 base vector of AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H and a base score of 7.5. Exploitation was assessed as less likely at publication, with no public disclosure or in-the-wild exploitation reported at that time.
