CVE-2026-45447 is a heap use-after-free vulnerability in OpenSSL's PKCS7_verify() function. When an application processes a specially crafted PKCS#7 or S/MIME signed message using the OpenSSL PKCS#7 APIs, a SignedData structure containing an empty digestAlgorithms ASN.1 SET can cause OpenSSL to incorrectly free a caller-owned BIO during signature verification. If the application subsequently reuses that BIO or frees it again, the process enters a use-after-free state. The flaw affects PKCS#7 verification paths, including S/MIME signed-message handling built on those APIs. CMS-based processing is not affected, and the vulnerable code is outside the OpenSSL FIPS module boundary.
